2023 Annual Report: Wisconsin Women in Public Finance

As an organization, our mission is to support and advance the careers of women in public finance by fostering relationships through networking and providing educational activities.


We honor this mission through a combination of educational as well as social events throughout the year. We want to take this opportunity to share with our sponsors and members what the Wisconsin Chapter of Women in Public Finance has done in 2023 to support our mission.


Education:

- Sponsored a panel discussion on the Intersectionality of Gender, Race and Sexual Orientation in the Workplace, showcasing our speakers:

  • Sharon Johnson, CFO and VP of Administration (Gateway Technical College)
  • Vicki Hellenbrand, Partner and Public Sector Lead (Baker Tilly)
  • Rushda Mustafa, Senior Vice President (Jeffries)
  • Allison Buchanan, Partner (Quarles & Brady)

- Co-Sponsored a webinar entitled “The Towanda Effect: Unapologetic Boldness for Life and Career Success” featuring its founder, Tonya Tiggett.


Social:

- Published a quarterly spotlight on our women members both representing the public and private sectors, our featured women included:

  • Kathy Blumenfeld, Secretary (State of Wisconsin Department of Administration)
  • Therese Wareham, Managing Director (Kaufman Hall & Associates)
  • Aycha Sawa, Comptroller (City of Milwaukee – Office of the Comptroller)
  • Rebecca Speckhard, Partner, National Chair of Public Finance (Quarles & Brady)
  • Sherry Gerondale, CFO (Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority)

- Co-Sponsored a Midwest (IA, IN, IL, KS, MO, WI) happy hour event at the National Women in Public Finance conference in Washington DC

- Tailgating event at the Wisconsin Badgers Homecoming Football Game
